During this panel, you’ll learn about the concept of intersectionality and how we can be aware of it. Our panelists will also share their own experiences with intersectionality.

About the Artists

Dana Carbone is a Non-Binary poet living in Sudbury, ON. They will be continuing their education this fall to complete their Master’s in Psychology. They love to write and perform poetry as well as swing dance. They also have recently started a vegan hazelnut business in their spare time.

Emma Daniels is a Sudbury local poet and performance artist who has recently published and edited a poetry collection called Feminine Grit. Their craft is heavily inspired by indie musicians and vintage films. They have become more involved with the local art community by participating as an emcee and performer at Wordstock Sudbury’s poetry slam. You can find more about Emma by following them on Instagram @emma_danielsxo

Ashley Woodruff is a recording artist of the pop and adult contemporary genres, based out of Sudbury, Ontario. She developed a passion for singing and writing songs from a very early age and began taking vocal lessons when she was 11. From there, Ashley was able to develop her voice through classical training. She also gained experience in performing through recitals, and school talent shows. When Ashley was a teenager, she attended Sudbury Secondary School as a vocal music major. She also started competing in the Kiwanis Music Festival, and releasing song covers online. All of the positive feedback was the fuel needed, to eventually write and release her own songs.  
After high school, she gained even more stage experience through performing in Sudbury, as well as different cities. Along with this, Ashley later started writing and recording her self-titled debut album, which was released November 2017. In December 2018, Ashley released a Christmas EP titled, “A Gift For You”. It was also recognized by Canadian Beats, as it appeared on their list of Holiday releases. She released three singles in 2019. In the review for “Clarity”, Buzz Music describes Ashley as “the complete package as a solo artist”. Ashley’s latest release is her 2020 album, “Distanced”.

Chloé Thériault est lauréate d’une Spécialisation en Théâtre (Magna Cum Laude) de l’Université Laurentienne (2019). Elle a écrit deux spectacles solos, qu’elle a pu présenter partout en Ontario ainsi qu’à Vancouver. En humour, elle a eu la chance de faire une des premières parties de Katherine Levac à Sudbury (2018) et à l’écran elle joue un second rôle sur Letterkenny (S6, E1). En anglais, elle a joué dans Mamma Mia et Mary Poppins via YES Theatre et dans un laboratoire de Colleen Murphy intitulé Geography of Fire ici à Sudbury. Depuis la chère pandémie, Chloé travaille l’écriture d’un troisième texte intitulé Solo Cup et a pu participer à la tournée rurale du spectacle du TNO, Shack à patates (septembre 2020). À la radio on peut l’entendre en tant qu’éditorialiste poétique à Radio-Canada (Jonction 11-17) ainsi qu’en radio-théâtre Voix Ouvertes Saison 1. À Sudbury, Chloé développe également un tout nouveau duo à base de sketch comique : Cécile pis Maureen, avec sa complice Darquise Lauzon.

Tafari (pronounced Ta-far-eye) Anthony is a Toronto based artist whose music blends Pop, R&B and Soul. He is an artist who embodies the spirit of the modern musician. Not just a musician, but a creator. Known for his sleek vocal tones, sultry melodies and music which oozes with personality, Tafari leaves listeners in awe – somewhat apt considering his name means “He who inspires awe”. Tafari has seen success with his music garnering acclaim from the likes of PAPER Magazine, Gay Times and MTV to name a few. He has been nominated for a Toronto Independent Music Award and receives regular airplay on CBC Radio, with one of his singles being named one of CBC’s Most Influential Songs of 2016. The singer has also performed alongside Shangela (RuPaul’s Drag Race) and has performed at Toronto’s Dundas Square and Massey Hall. “No Good” is off of the upcoming EP The Way You See Me, due later this year. 

G.R. Gritt pulls effortlessly from the past to create soulful futurisms with their new sound that elegantly weaves the melodies using vocals, guitar and new electronic elements. They create both intimate and anthemic music that would fit in a folk club, a dance club and anywhere in between. G.R. Gritt is a Juno Award winning, Two-Spirit, Transgender, Francophone, Anishinaabe/Métis artist and after living many years in Yellowknife, they have returned to Sudbury/Robinson Huron Treaty territory where they grew up. This homecoming coincides with a journey that they feel better represents them. With these changes has come a new voice both physically and in the growing magnetism of their songwriting.
The Northern cities G.R Gritt has lived in forced them every winter through snow and harsh temperatures to make a choice between isolation and seeking community as a source of warmth. Their music serves as one of these beacons of connection for all who come near it. Welcoming yet truthful, they reclaim space through songs that show that intersectional identity is expansive and not to be divided into parts. By exploring the emotional and cultural core of their heritage as a non-binary, queer, Indigenous artist they create new space and encourage others to do the same.
After releasing their first single, “Quiet Years”, November 27, 2020, and their second single, “Doubt It”, February 12, 2021, G.R. Gritt released their full-length album, Ancestors, on April 16, 2021 on Coax Records.
